Instant rebates - Golden State Rebates offers instant rebates of $500-$900 on heat pump water heater upgrades. Distributors and contractors submit these rebates on your behalf, to lower your upfront cost.

Cash rebates - California offers $3,100-$3,800 cash rebates for homeowners who upgrade from a gas water heater to a heat pump. Approved contractors register the installation with TECH Clean California, which sends a check within 2-4 months.

Tax credits - the Inflation Reduction Act offers federal tax credits on hybrid heat pump and gas tankless water heaters. The credits cover 30% of the total project cost - up to $2,000 for heat pumps and $600 for tankless. More info.
